Rachel Sommer

After graduating from UC Berkeley and getting my Master’s in Teaching from USC, I moved to Denver and joined DPS 10 years ago. I taught Language Arts at Merrill from 2013-2019, then had a 3-year stint teaching high school literacy at Northfield High School before I realized I left my heart in middle school and came “home” to Merrill this year! I am passionate not only about ensuring all my students enter the world as highly literate young adults, but also about instilling in them a love of learning and literature. When I’m not teaching, I have my hands full at home with my three (3!!!) young children and 2 fluffy yellow labs.
