Our current student population is comprised of students from our local neighborhood and from neighborhoods all over the world.  Of our current 533 students, 233 are international students (also referenced as English-language learners).  Merrill is home to the English Language Acquisition Magnet Program and the Newcomer Center.  The goal of these programs is to provide students with the English-language skills they need to transition into traditional classrooms.  Combined, these programs bring to our building students from more than 30 countries throughout the world, who speak more than 25 languages and dialects!  All of which truly makes us an international school and provides students with a diverse educational experience few people will ever have.

Half to two-thirds of Merrill students are great local kids who enjoy sharing their neighborhood school with their international academic peers.  These students can walk to Merrill, open the doors, and open their minds to a world of possibilities. We celebrate the diversity that all students bring to our campus.
