Breaking Classroom Rules
(i.e. gum chewing, no supplies, no homework, putting on make-up, bringing a backpack, passing notes, talking, disturbing others with inappropriate behavior, etc.) |
Teacher uses classroom management techniques to redirect behavior. Phone calls to the parents/guardians may also be appropriate if the behavior continues. |
Unexcused Tardies |
- The first unexcused tardy will earn a lunch detention.
- A second unexcused tardy will earn a teacher conference, a lunch detention and a parent contact.
- A third unexcused tardy will earn a lunch detention, a conference with the student advisor and another parent contact.
- Any further unexcused tardies, within the trimester, will earn a lunch detention and a formal referral to the student advisor; additional consequences could be either academic detention or in-house suspension.

Disruptive Behavior
(i.e. excessive classroom disruptions, talking out inappropriately, throwing things, etc.) |
- First offense: Warning
- Second offense: In-Class refocus or refocus in another classroom.
- Third offense: Teacher/Student conference and Teacher contacts home.
- Fourth offense: Teacher assigned detention / Team Meeting.
- Fifth offense: Teacher/Student/Parent conference.
- Sixth offense: Behavior referral written and 1-day ISS.
- Seventh offense: Behavior referral written and 1-day OSS. Student placed on a behavior contract.
- If behavior continues, return to
Step 3. |
Obscene/Profane Language or Gestures |
- First offense: Warning
- Second offense: Teacher assigned detention.
- Third offense: Referral to Student Advisor and conference with administrator/ family/teacher/student.
- Fourth offense: Behavior referral written and 1-day ISS.
- Fifth offense: Behavior referral written and 1-day OSS. Student placed on a behavior contract.
- Sixth offense: Behavior referral written up to 3-day OSS. Student’s behavior contract revised.

Graffiti, willful destruction or defacing of school/other’s property
(The level of severity will determine the appropriate step. Any destruction that has extreme costs associated with it will result in immediate placement on step 3 or step 4)

- Third offense: Behavior referral written and 1-day OSS. Student placed on a behavior contract.

Harassment/Bullying
(i.e. verbal/physical threat or act of a sexual, religious, racial or ethnic nature that cases substantial physical or mental harm) |
- First offense: Referral to Student Advisor and Title IX paperwork submitted to district. 1-day OSS for the perpetrator and student placed on behavior contract.
- Second offense: Referral to Student Advisor and Title IX paperwork submitted to district. 3-day OSS for the perpetrator and student behavior contract revised.
- Third offense: Referral to Student Advisor and Title IX paperwork submitted to district. Up to 5-day OSS for the perpetrator and student placed on behavior contract.

- First offense: Conference with student and phone call home.
- Second offense: Teacher assigned detention.
- Third offense: Behavior referral written and 1-day ISS.
- Fourth offense: Behavior referral written up to 3-day OSS. Student given a behavior contract.

Sale, Distribution, or Possession of Alcohol or Illegal Substances.
Theft, Larceny, Breaking or Entering |
- First offense: Behavior referral and up to 3-day OSS. Student given a behavior contract.
- Second offense: Behavior referral and up to 5-day OSS. Student’s behavior contract revised.
- Third offense: Behavior referral and 5-day suspension, request for 10 day extension to suspension and expulsion hearing.

Carrying, Bringing, Using, or Possession of a Dangerous Weapon or Facsimile Weapon
Terrorist Threat |
- First offense: Behavior referral and 5-day suspension, request for 10 day extension to suspension and expulsion hearing.

Automatic and Immediate Referrals to the Student Advisor
Behaviors that endanger others or violate law are automatically referred to the student advisor, without the steps of the referral ladder. These behaviors include:
- Physical violence, or threatening physical violence
- Sexual harassment
- Theft
- Possession of tobacco products, drugs, alcohol, lighters
- Truancy
- Possession of a weapon or weapon facsimile
